Over the past year, consumer CPG purchase behavior has taken a turn down but then back up in the latest quarter. Dollar sales growth reflects the impact of product inflation at retail. But unit sales declines present a more telling story of weakened shopper behavior. Both, however, are on the rise as recent gas price spikes prompt consumers to reduce restaurant spending and eat in more often.
